How To Find Targeted Keywords
Before tackling any individual niche market, it's best to start with the big picture, and then narrow it down. It's the secret to building a list that's just right for your niche market.
When compiling lists of keywords, start with general terms before funneling down to specific keyword phrases. What this accomplishes is that it keeps you from missing important related keywords you might have otherwise overlooked. You want to be able to think as your prospects do, so your site appears when they do their searching.
Begin with a general term, for example, "investing". It's best to conduct broad searches without quotation marks and specific keyword phrases with them. In our example, the term "investing" may or may not be something the target market would enter into the search window. So you want to expand the field of possibilities the way Google does and then select your best targeted keywords from there.
Google automatically analyzes the relevancy of every search term with what's known as Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI). You don't need to know any of the technical details, just be aware of how LSI comes into play to return search results. LSI feeds the search engines with similar terms related to the search term.
To benefit from LSI, try conducting a Google search for the phrase "investing". Next, use the exact same term, but put a tilde (~) directly in front of it. So your search phrase would look like this: "~investing". What you'll notice is that Google returns related words in bold such as "investors", "stock market", "financial" and so on.
You can then take each of these additional terms and do a "tilde search" on each. Capture any additional keywords and phrases that come up. By starting with general terms and then moving into more specific keyword phrases, you'll be sure not to miss out on any related words that could draw quality traffic to your site. Additionally, you'll have a keyword list that represents the specific vocabulary of your prospects. But it's a list the Google helped you compile, so it stands to reason that Google will evaluate your content as being highly relevant and position your site accordingly.
With this method you've built your keyword list based on terms the search engines indicated as most relevant, rather than simply compiling a list on your own.
Knowing how to find targeted keywords and using this information can make a huge difference. It doesn't matter what niche you're targeting, effective keyword is the key. Follow this simple method to build your list of terms. Then determine how many users are searching for each of those specific terms -- and that's where you'll want to employ quotation marks. Once you've found the terms you want to target, then it's time to optimize your pages for the search engines.
