How to Make the Search Engines Smile with Website Writing
When you are website writing, keyword density should be at the top of the list for things you want to check for your seo (search engine optimization, which means you want to include what the search engines like on a site to put you on the top of a search).
Keywords are a word or phrase (up to three words), that you use to target, explaining to the engines what your site is exactly about. These should be sprinkled throughout your website, but you should not over use them. You should use just the right amount optimal for the engines.
There is a great danger your site will be rejected or you will have very low rankings if your repeat keywords every line or every other word.
The density works out to be the total percentage of your keyword used on a particular web page.
To make the formula simple let's say you have exactly 100 words on your site page. Do not count words used in your HTML coding. You have 5 keywords in your website writing. Simply divide the number of keywords by the total number of words on your page.
So now we have 5 divided by 100 = .05. Since your keyword density is a percentage of the word count of that page, multiply it by 100 ( this is not your word count in this example but part of the formula), that will be .05 x 100 = 5%.
Do not exceed the accepted standard of most search engines which is between 3% and 5% for your density. This will cause the engines to believe you are trying to trick them to get high rankings.
Remember, keep to this rule not just your homepage, but every page of your website. Here is a simple way to check your density on your pages:
On a web page you would like to check, copy and paste the content into a word-processing program such as Word or Word Perfect.
Now that you have it pasted into your word-processing program go to the 'Edit' menu and click 'Select All'. Then in the 'Tools' menu select 'Word Count'. Write the number of words you have on that page on a sheet of paper.
Go to the 'Find' function located in the 'Edit' menu. Now in the 'Find' field type in the keyword you want to check. In the 'Replace' type that same word so you do not change your content.
When the replace function has completed, the program will give you a count of how many times it found that word or phrase. This will be your keyword count for that web site page.
You can now use your formula and figure out your keyword density for any page, when you are website writing, armed with the total keyword count and total word count. Keep the search engines smiling when they see one of your sites by staying inside the the accepted standards.
