Search Engine Optimization- The Magic of Keywords

So you have your website online and ready to take orders from customers. There's only one little problem- you have no visitors. If you're ready to optimize your site, you need to ask yourself this simple question:

How will my visitors find me?

The answer is search engines. When you're looking for a particular type of site you go to the search engines, and so will your customers.

Now your question becomes, what will my customers type into the search engines to find me?

You can find this information by looking at online trends. Keyword research is one the most powerful tools to getting free traffic to your site from search engines. You need to find out what words people use to find sites like yours. Keyword research reports are one of the best ways to get this type of information. These reports should contain the following information:

1. A broad list of keywords specific to a product or service
2. The number of times each keyword was searched by visitors
3. The number of results returned by the search engines for each keyword.

This information is crucial, and any sold keyword report will include this information for you. Once you have this list you need to build pages.

Which keywords should you build your pages around?

There are 2 pieces of information you need to know. The searches (the number of times the keywords searched) and the results (the number of results for the at keyword. If the number of results for a keyword is high, then your page is going to have to compete with all those results. On the other hand if the number of results is low, you will have much less competition.

There is a simple formula which says a good keyword will have high search volume and low returning results (low competition). You should build 10-20 pages around low competition keywords.

Once you have chosen your keywords you need to optimize the keyword page.

How do you optimize the page? You can always use a search engine optimization firm to help you, or you can follow some simple guidelines.

1. Write a page between 400-500 words.
2. Make sure to use your keyword in the beginning, middle and end.
3. Make sure to use link anchor text with these keywords.

In the end you should have 10 to 20 pages each ranking highly for low competition keywords. This will slowly but surely drive free traffic to your site from search engines.
