No article that explains search engine tactics would be complete without highlighting the importance of good content in ranking high on the search engines. While content relevancy is accepted as a fact, inexperienced and sometimes even the experienced web designers get trapped in the technicalities of JavaScript, flash files and tables while designing a site for the client. As a result, you end up with a great looking site that has the best rollover effects but cannot be found by the target customer. Web designers tend to lose focus of the fact that it is not a flashy site that is going to attract business but a customer-centric, informative site that will make your site a revenue-generating one. A website that cannot be found by search engines is a worthless investment in making your presence felt on the Word Wide Web.

It is important to remember that search engine algorithms are clueless about the aesthetics of a website. What is important to search engines is relevant content on your site. Relevant content essentially means content that has been developed keeping the target audience in mind. The following pointers can help you develop a user friendly, search engine savvy and pleasing website;

1) Yahoo ranks keyword-rich content higher and Google gives importance to incoming links from sites with related content.

2) All search engines like fresh and unique content on the sites, as each one is trying to provide the best and the most relevant results to the users.

3) Update the web page content every day with at least 200-300 words of relevant information to keep the content fresh.

4) If you have more than one website, ensure that you do not have identical content on these sites.

5) A balance of good backlinks and keyword rich content will result in high rankings in both Yahoo and Google.

If you have good content on your site, it is only natural for other web masters to get into a link exchange association with you. This would be a foolproof means to build links that would be related to the business you are doing. This kind of organic link building is given good weightage by the search engines.

The content on your site represents you and all that your company stands for. Quality content also helps to build a recall value for your site. Good content on the landing pages of your site or the home page of your site can do wonders in building a long-term association with your target visitors.

Every web promotion team should remember that while algorithms change, the importance of relevant content would never change. Good content on your site would be informative to the visitors and relevant content would make the visitor a buyer or subscriber. It's all about business at the end of the day!
